Description: Join the Fremont Abbey Arts Center with B.F. Day Elementary School at “Art Rocks!” to celebrate the power of art in children’s lives. On April 24th, from 1 pm to 3 pm the Fremont Abbey’s Great Hall will be filled all kinds of art, from a Student Art Display, to a Kid’s Music Show with performances by several local musicians. Don’t miss the face painting by Aliza’s Face Art, or the PTSA bake sale and raffles. Julie Trout, the visual art teacher at B.F.Day Elementary and Sandy Buchner, artist in residence for Vocal Music, have been collaborating on various projects to develop connections between art, school and community. By reaching out to the Fremont Abbey and neighborhood musicians, Art Rocks will be a truly community event and public show celebrating the children’s artistic efforts. Open to the public, there will be a suggested donation of $5 at the door. Even if you are unable to attend you may still make a donation by dropping a check by the school office or online at www.bfdayptsa.org. Art Rocks is also an opportunity to check out the arts programs also offered through the Fremont Abbey Arts Center at www.fremontabbey.org
Despite arts programs being cut from many school curriculums, B.F. Elementary School understands the many ways that the arts benefit students. The arts teach that problems have more than one solution, celebrate multiple perspectives, enable children to communicate what cannot be said and of course they bring joy! Despite research supporting the claim that kids exposed to the arts perform better academically, funding is being slashed across the district. Because B.F.Day believes strongly in the power and necessity of arts education they continue to offer visual art and music to all students. The music program, while not funded by the district, is supported by the PTSA with auctions and fundraisers throughout the year. Art Rocks is our way of thanking families, staff, the neighborhood and celebrate our kids.
